Journalism,
it is widely and correctly believed, is going through major changes. The
digital age is beginning to take hold; social media and the internet is the way
forward.
As
a student of journalism, the importance of the internet is routinely reiterated
to me to an almost nauseating extent. Not only is it a way to get your work and
name out there, it’s also a fundamental part of a journalist’s job.
Wannabe
journalists, then, should not only want to get used to different internet
offerings, but also prove that they can use them and simultaneously use
different platforms to build a more expansive online presence.
Prospective
journalists should use the internet to their advantage more, be it for simple
posting of articles or learning basic skills such as photography, video or
podcasting. You can read my piece on Byline here.
